On a beautiful evening, I am drawn to the golden rays of the setting sun hitting the rustic provincial/country furniture that adorns the sidewalk outside Kawa. We have a penchant of arriving just before closing time, perhaps subconsciously testing the service staff and barista to see what they deliver to the last customers of a day. Kawa Cafe is situated on the Oxford Street end of Crown street.
I order a cappuccino and M orders a slice of coconut cake and hot chocolate. Kawa prides itself on only baking and cooking food with ingredients which are certified organic. The coconut cake is perfect, with a burst of tropical flavours yet with a soft crumbly texture. I would definitely come back and try this cake on my next visit.
My cappuccino arrives after a few minutes, and M laughs out, as I let out a Wow! My coffee is served in a huge latte cup! No complaints here, but it’s the largest volume of coffee I have sampled in a long time. I take my first sips and my love affair with Kawa continues, as the coffee is a delight. It’s the best coffee I have had for weeks. Perfect in every regard. This cappuccino strikes a perfect balance between strength of flavour, temperature and that almost intangible smooth viscosity of a smashing cap! Can you tell I love my cappuccino here at Kawa! The bonus here is that it’s such a big cup it’s a treat I can savour for a few minutes, rather than a few seconds at other cafes. The perfect confluence of barista and her single origin coffee or maybe it was just the 100% organic milk!
On a chance I stumbled upon Kawa, but this little bohemian space has quickly ascended to a place where I would bring back a couple friends to sample the breakfast or dinner menus. Regular coffees go for $3 and the large goes for $4. Spend the coin and get the large, because Kawa’s coffee is some of the best value in town.
Recommendation : Drop everything and head into the food street that is Crown Street, and drop into Kawa Cafe for some heavenly coffee!
