Seachange Cafe Dee Why

Seachange Cafe Dee Why

There is always that one place that you hold dear, one place, that you keep coming back year after year. That place for me is Seachange which is located opposite Dee Why beach on Sydney’s northern beaches peninsular. I lived in Dee Why for 7 years and quite often found myself grabbing a lunch, breakfast and even dinner, and even when not sitting down just a take away coffee.

Seachange takes pride of place in the middle of The Strand with views to Dee Why beach and all the way up to Long Reef beach. On a warm summer’s day or even a crisp winter’s day, it’s a spectacular spot to start the day and heaters and plastic sheeting protects on cold rainy days too. I have 2 favourites when it comes to breakfast. The Dee Why sunrise pumps a whole lot of calories into you but is delicious, as does the banana bread. The servings of breakfast is generous, so much so, you can easily share the breakfast between 2 and still come away contented.

What of the coffee, well perhaps it comes up a little short all things considered. On my visit today, it’s bitter and drowns out the flavour of the Molinari Beans. Top marks to the cafe for not skimping on the coffee cups which hold a decent cappucino, it tends to buck the trend of cafes across Sydney who opt for the smaller coffee cups.

Service is excellent, wait staff are quick to take orders, ensure that each table has water and generally walk around with a smile. It’s one of the main reasons that I keep coming back to Seachange, and it’s the way they treat their customers. The team make it feel like that they too are having fun. Kids are taken care off too, with colouring pencils and drawings to keep them amused.

Seachange to me is like one big happy family. All families have their misgivings and Seachange is not immune, but again it’s a place that doesn’t aim to be something it’s not. Seachange, delivers good honest food with decent yet not earth shattering coffees. It’s welcoming and for about $17 if you choose one of the big breakfasts and coffee or about $7.50 for a banana bread and coffee it not’s too heavy on the wallet. The good thing is you can come back for lunch and dinner too!

Escape Manly and check out the fare at Seachange at Dee Why.
